Driving diversity and inclusion in sustainability and the environment

Green Horizons Case Study

Two people of colour talking at an event

The environmental profession is one of the least diverse professions in the UK—but that is changing. The Diverse Sustainability Initiative (DSI) is bringing together professionals, organisations, and advocates to create a more inclusive green economy where people from all backgrounds feel seen, heard, and empowered.

At the latest event in Birmingham, sustainability leaders, industry newcomers, and change-makers came together to share experiences, collaborate, and drive action. With networks dedicated to People of Colour, LGBTQIA+ professionals, and others historically underrepresented in the field, the initiative is building a stronger, more representative sector. Together, the DSI is driving change in diversity and inclusion in the environment and sustainability professions.

“While progress is being made, I don’t believe that the sector is fully representative of the country’s diversity…if you want to be involved in the sector, there are so many different roles that are available here. There’s something for everyone.”

The DSI is driving diversity and inclusion in the environment and sustainability professions; we need diverse perspectives to tackle the world’s biggest challenges. If you’re passionate about making a difference, there is space for you here.
