Actions to protect, sustainably manage, and restore natural and modified ecosystems that address societal challenges effectively and adaptively, simultaneously benefiting people and nature. They work by increasing the quantity and quality of natural capital stocks and can enhance biodiversity.
Networks of NbS could be considered components of Blue-Green Infrastructure. Examples include natural flood management, peatland restoration, coral reef and saltmarsh restoration, SuDS, arable reversion. Nature-based Solutions (NbS) are depicted here under the umbrella of Natural Capital because they work by building Natural Capital stocks.
