Engineering accounts for around 20% of all jobs, with engineering and technology roles expected to grow faster than other occupations across all UK regions by 2030. We need sustainable engineering, and individuals to help deliver it.
Introducing the engineering sector
Engineers can be found working across all sectors of the economy, from energy and power, to healthcare, transport, space, construction, agriculture, and more. At every step of the career ladder, engineers are in demand, whether they’re apprentices or technicians, graduates, or postgraduates.
The target to achieve clean power by 2030 means an uptick in engineering roles. More wind turbines, solar panels, and electricity storage all require more engineering expertise. Key roles in demand in engineering and technology include engineer, scientist, and technician.
The importance of going green in the sector
People working in engineering and technology develop solutions to pressing environmental problems and global challenges. This includes reducing carbon emissions, optimising waste management and recycling, producing and distributing food, clothes, and other goods sustainably, reducing air pollution, and improving water quality.
Green jobs involve protecting or restoring the environment, and mitigating or adapting to climate change. Engineers, scientists and technicians are found in a range of sectors and help develop sustainable solutions to the way we travel, eat, live and use things. Examples are: transport (e-planes, electricity vehicles and railways, hydrogen HGVs), food (growth production and preservation), and waste (pollution reduction, recyclability of items and re-use or multi usability).

EUK Education aims to give all young people a chance to get hands-on with STEM and learn about people working in science and engineering careers.
