Local London Green Jobs and Skills Partnership

Comprising over 20 education providers, 9 local authorities and over 30 employers, the Local London Green Jobs and Skills Partnership aims to influence and shape green employment and skills provision, drive job creation and secure high-quality green and digital skills training.

London South East Colleges (LSEC), the lead for the colleges, successfully delivered a Department for Education (DfE)-funded initiative that resulted in the development of eight green skills laboratories, providing exciting new career opportunities and developing skills.

LSEC is currently leading the London Local Skills Improvement Fund (LSIF) to ensure that employers’ skills needs can be met and people across the region have access to the many job opportunities in green and digital.

London South East Colleges: Creating Green Opportunity

19-year-old student Daniel Hayden is one of the first Londoners to take advantage of a new training space designed for the next generation to gain the skills required for the green economy.

The Green Skills Lab, at LSEC’s Bromley Campus, is one of eight labs being opened at FE colleges across London. These are being funded by a £2.4m grant from the government’s Strategic Development Fund.

Daniel, a Level 2 student, aspires to one day start his own electrical business.

At the Green Skills Lab he’s getting first-hand practical experience working with the technologies at the heart of our green future, including: air source heat pumps, solar thermal, solar PV, battery and electric vehicle charging.

Industry leaders, like Wates, are also involved in the Green Skills Lab, ensuring the curriculum followed offers the best grounding in the skills required for a career in the green economy.

Daniel says: “I really couldn’t ask for a better place to learn about these green technologies. This is where the future is at and what I’m learning now will put me in a good place to start my own business.”
